Andrew Berks was born in 1992 in England to British and Canadian parents. He grew up between the United Kingdom and Canada. Two years of fine arts studies at Queen's University, along with early recognition of his work by others, were enough to confirm his interest and abilities in oil painting. He has been a professional artist since 2012. Andrew currently lives and works in the farmland of Herefordshire, England.
Berks is primarily interested in the technical application of paint. Palette knives are enthusiastically used for much of each painting, chosen for their combined brutality and precision. He explores the versatility of oil paint, starting with transparent layers and progressing to more decisive and refined marks. Ideally, the level of clarity does not overshadow the boldness of the paint, as the intention is to develop interest from two perspectives.
His work always includes subjects from the bovine variety, chosen for their calm yet imposing presence and how well they lend themselves to his painting style. In recent years, his growing passion for plein air painting and floral subjects has solidified his work while significantly pushing his boundaries.
